National Sports Day Celebrates At GCW Udhampur

National Sports Day 2023, celebrated at Govt. College for Women (GCW) Udhampur. Department of Sports Organized annual felicitation ceremony to felicitate and recognize the meritorious sports women, who had participated and stood victorious in different levels of sports competition ranging from Intercollegiate, Interuniversity and All India Inter University level tournaments on August 29, 2023.
Earlier, Head Department of Sports Dr Dinesh in his address briefed the audience that about 75 college students of different streams BA, BSC & Commerce participated this year in Intercollegiate competitions held at university of Jammu, where the college Handball & chess team finished runner-up champion, whereas the college team of kho-kho, basketball and yoga got third place. Besides 14 players of the college were selected to represent university of Jammu in All India Inter-University & Inter-University competitions i.e. Piyush Sharma participated in (All India Interuniversity, Yoga championship held at KIIT University Bhubaneswar, Odisa) & also in Interuniversity Handball championship held at MDU Rohtak Haryana, Bhawna Sharma & Manvi Sharma participated in (All India Interuniversity, Chess championship held at Manipal academy of higher education University, Karnataka) & Interuniversity chess championship held at Delhi University, Arushi Sharma participated in North Zone Interuniversity handball championship held at MDU Rohtak Haryana & also in Interuniversity volleyball championship held at Kurukshetra university Haryana,
In football Anshika Sharma, Charu Sharma Mettali Rajput & Shabnam Hussain participated in north zone interuniversity championship held at GNDU Amritsar, in Taekwondo Monika Thakur participated in All India Interuniversity held at GNDU Amritsar, Sanjeevni Sharma & Javika Thakur also participated in interuniversity handball championship held at MDU Rohtak Haryana.
In Kho-Kho Priyanka Sharma & Kiran Devi participated in North Zone interuniversity championship held at MDU Rohtak Haryana.
In archery Meena Devi participated in All India Interuniversity held at central university of Punjab Bathinda.
The winners were presented with a memento, certificate and the tracksuits were also distributed to the winners by the worthy principal of the college. The college staff members who had escorted different college teams as team in-charge for intercollegiate competitions were also felicitated on the occasion.
Principal Professor Anjali Mahajan congratulated the winners and praised the enduring efforts of Dr Dinesh HOD Sports in persuading the students to take up regular sports activities, in her address she also emphasized on the immense potential of sports in promoting inclusive and fit society and assured the students of all support and provide appropriate platform to exhibit their sporting excellence at highest level.
Others present on the occasion were Jugal Kishore (PhD) convener career counseling, guidance and placement cell, Mr Mushtaq Ahmed & Mr Rajinder singh member sports committee, technical assistance was provided by Mohd. Younous and Kuldeep Singh.
