WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY – 2022 “Creating Hope through Action”

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is observed every year on September 10th. One of the leading causes of death globally is suicide. Every suicide is painful to the families and the society at large, it affects each one of us. Suicide may be prevented if the warning signs are recognised and timely support is provided to the individual. The International Association of Suicide Prevention declared “Creating Hope through Action” as the theme for this WSPD 2022. A webinar on “Early identification of self-harm and its prevention among youths” was organised by the Department of Counseling and Psychology Cell, GCW Udhampur. Dr. Gurjot Singh, Consultant Psychiatrist, Waves Hospital, Hoshiarpur was the Resource Person for the webinar. Dr. Gurjot Singh spoke on the warning signs especially among the students and the risk factors involved. During his talk, he stressed the methods to deal with the sensitive issues faced by the students and youth. At the end of the session, an interactive session was held between the speaker and the participants. Prof. (Dr) Monika Sharma, Principal, GCW, Udhampur, welcomed the audience and introduced the theme of WSPD – 2022. Dr. Kamal Deep Kaur, convener, Counseling and Psychology Cell GCW Udhampur, introduced the speaker and also delivered the vote of thanks. Around 80 students participated in the webinar. E- certificates will be provided to all the participants.
